Blue Owl Preserves started in 2015 as kt’s creations. Founder and owner, Katie Cezo, began making jam during college. She became interested in learning how to preserve locally grown foods for enjoyment throughout the year and jams quickly became her favorite canned good. After many years of sharing her creations with friends and family, she decided to share it with her community, as well. Shortly after moving to Colorado Springs, Katie launched kt’s creations and had a wonderful first season of farmer’s markets. With all the positive and enthusiastic feedback she received from her customers, she realized this endeavor was not a “one-summer thing”. In 2016, the name changed to Blue Owl Preserves and Katie focused on sharing her low sugar jams with more people along the Colorado Front Range.
Katie’s passion for healthy living, good food and exploring our natural world are evident in all she does. When Katie isn’t making jam, she’s teaching Environmental Science at Pikes Peak Community College, training for her next triathlon or adventuring around in Colorado.
Katie’s husband, Jim, plays a vital role in the company’s success by diligently tasting each new flavor combination and devouring any open jars left unguarded in the fridge. In addition to ensuring that each jam provides intense fruit flavor without overpowering sweetness, Jim is the mastermind behind Blue Owl Preserves’ apple butter.
While Kaya doesn’t play a role in the jam making process, she makes sure her humans get outside to enjoy all Colorado has to offer and insists on frequent cuddles to help them feel recharged. She also patrols the yard to ensure no pesky squirrels or birds can distract her humans from creating delicious products for you to enjoy.
